the Edisto Island Community Association

The Edisto Island Community Association is the voice of the Edisto
community. It's interests include public safety, education,
quality of life, disaster preparedness and much, much more.
Leadership of the organization represents the diversity of
the island population and it has long been active in protecting
those things that the people of Edisto cherish.

The association meets quarterly at the Edisto Community
Center. The Board meets more frequently and when pressing
items arise will quickly call a general meeting to get input
from the entire community.

 

EICA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Edisto Island Community Association has established a Scholarship Award to be given to an Edisto Island senior student.  The award(s) will be given annually to the student(s) who meets the minimum requirements and is based on character, school/community involvement and academics.

Listed below are the minimum requirements:

  1. The applicant must be a graduating high school senior who resides on Edisto Island, Charleston or Colleton County.
  2. The applicant must have maintained a 2.5 average during his/her four years of high school.
  3. The applicant must have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the American Collegiate Test prior to graduation and earned a high composite score among the graduating seniors who reside on Edisto Island, Charleston County.
  4. The applicant must be accepted as a full time undergraduate student at a College, University, Technical or Trade School.
  5. The applicant must be recommended by his/her Principal and one Teacher and one Counselor.
  6. The applicant must submit a personally written statement to the Selection Committee addressing his/her future goals and a brief description of himself/herself.

 

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:
The Selection Committee will rely strongly upon recommendations of the Principal, Teacher and Counselor and also upon the personally written statement.

Annual EICA oyster roast

The annual oyster roast is a high point of
the association's year.

Meeting of the Community Assocation

But the real work of the association comes in our meetings
where we discuss everything from the Charleston Co.
Comprehensive Plan to law enforcement. Recent topics have
included conservation easements, the Island's recently founded program of respite care for families facing Alzheimer's, the
possibility of Jane Edwards School becoming a magnet school,
and YMCA programs. The community Association has taken
a lead role in preparing the island for hurricanes and other emergencies. A continuing topic has been our college
scholarship program and our efforts to attract highly
qualified young people to benefit from those scholarships.

We urge you to donate to Our Scholarship Fund
which assists qualified Edisto residents in achieving a
college education.

We welcome all friends of Edisto, residents and property owners
to join our Association.
